Jayne Terese Justice, RN, BSN

With 38 years in healthcare and 33 in home infusion, Jayne Terese Justice has spent much of her career alongside the evolution of alternate-site care.

Her early infusion work included oncology therapy delivered in the home. As more therapies became available outside traditional settings, she saw patients gain greater choice in where they could receive treatment and witnessed how those options could improve quality of life and satisfaction.

Those experiences gave Jayne an early view of a healthcare shift that would continue throughout her career.

Jayne has built, grown, acquired and sold businesses and opened de novo companies and branches that went on to prosper. Yet developing people remains one of the accomplishments she values most. Jayne believes leaders should understand the work they ask others to perform and be willing to do it alongside them.

“It is crucial to roll up your sleeves and be able to ‘build’ the business together.”

She carries several principles with her, including “Professional persistence pays off,” “lead by example” and “people respect what you inspect.”

For Jayne, accountability isn’t about standing above the work. It requires remaining engaged enough to understand it—and being willing to roll up your sleeves when necessary.

Jayne has spent decades navigating healthcare as both a clinician and business leader, and she is candid about the expectations women can encounter. In her experience, women often feel their plans must be exceptionally well thought through, with few gaps left open to question.

Her response has been preparation, involvement and persistence.

Jayne’s own career as a president and corporate officer has also given her the opportunity to mentor and advance other women. She believes women bring an important ability to balance the demands of building businesses with an understanding of patient care—and she encourages emerging leaders to seek opportunities, network, ask questions and take on challenges that stretch them.

Jayne expects alternate-site infusion to continue expanding as therapies, payer dynamics and patient expectations evolve. She sees a growing role for care outside traditional hospital settings:

“In the next 10 years there will be much focus on the alternate site therapy settings. Infusion care outside of the hospital walls is key in the eyes of patient care, for insurance initiatives, for the many drugs coming to the market, in QOL studies, etc...”

She describes this growing model as a “hospital without walls.”

After nearly four decades in healthcare, she believes successful organizations must be willing to adapt their models while listening carefully to the people they serve.

Her career ultimately brings two kinds of building together: building organizations capable of evolving and building people capable of leading them.
